Art installation The Moment represents a part of Art Days in Valmiera 2019 - Steps, City, I.

The Moment is styled in the shape of an hourglass and projects the passing of time. It symbolizes how much or just nothing can happen in a few minutes of life. Time is something that you cannot touch and it has neither beginning nor end. However, an hourglass can materialize time and make it visible to the human eye, thus helping us understand how usefully time is being spent. The Moment invites people to revise the importance of their personal priorities and the amount of time dedicated to them.

The main hoop size is 2.5m in its diameter and is made of iron sheet supported by curved square iron tubes. The central hourglass is made of perforated iron sheet and of square iron tube construction. The rotation is provided by a bearing system with an integrated stepper motor. The object contains in total of 2680 LED pixels controlled by Fade Candy controllers. The installation is controlled using Raspberry Pi and custom software.
